Co-Creating Public Transport: OptiPEx’s Focus Group in Linz

We’re excited to share that on October 2nd, the Department Intelligent Transport Systems at Johannes Kepler University (JKU), successfully conducted a focus group session as a part of OptiPEx project, marking an important step in our mission to enhance public transport experiences in Europe. The session brought together eight university students (with equal gender representation) who contributed with their valuable insights on key aspects of Linz’s tramway system (Austria). The discussion centred around three crucial areas: Passenger distribution within trams; safety measures regarding trams and pedestrians; and unusual activities onboard.

OptiPEx aims to revolutionise public transport by co-creating ethical, passenger-aware solutions that enhance comfort, safety, and ease of travel. Our project has a particular focus on addressing the needs of diverse user groups, including university students. This focus group represents one of several planned co-creation activities where we engage directly with public transport users to ensure our solutions are truly user-centred and meet real-world needs. We are grateful to all participants for their enthusiastic engagement and valuable contributions. While detailed findings from this session are still being analysed, we look forward to sharing insights that will help shape the future of public transportation in Linz and potentially across Europe.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our journey toward creating more inclusive and efficient public transport solutions!
