IAV participated in the 8th International Conference on Human Systems Engineering and Design (IHSED 2026), held in Paris, France, from 22–24 September 2026, where researcher Diva Pant presented a paper titled Event-Level Acoustic Emergency Detection to Support Operator Awareness in Public Transport.
The presentation explored how acoustic perception technologies can support human operators supervising public transport systems. Rather than focusing solely on detection performance, the work examined how emergency-relevant acoustic events, such as sirens, distress sounds, and glass breaking, can be transformed into structured event-level information that supports operator awareness and attention management. The proposed approach highlights a human-in-the-loop concept in which AI systems assist by filtering and prioritizing information while operators retain responsibility for interpretation and decision-making.
The contribution is highly relevant to OptiPEx, as it demonstrates how intelligent perception technologies can enhance situational awareness and decision-support capabilities in future public transport operations. The presentation provided an opportunity to disseminate project results to an international audience working in human-centred Design, human-machine interaction, safety, and operational support systems.
